There is something to be said about the addition of music to any event, but especially to the biggest event of all time…Your wedding. Music ties together the feeling of love, celebration, friendship and fun. It evokes a mood in people that gets them out of their seats and on to the dance floor.
A lot goes into planning the perfect soundtrack to your wedding. From picking the songs that will play when you walk down the aisle, to your first dance, your reception music, dinner music and of course dancing music…and for some…a little after party entertainment.
Just like in anything else, variety in music will spice up your event. What better ways to showcase the mood of your wedding then to start off with a beautiful string quartet, violinist or cello player, to give the evening some ambiance as people arrive? If that’s not your style think about a small jazz band, calypso band or any other type of musical band that highlights the theme or feel of your evening and sets the proper mood for your guests.
Think about the feeling you want to evoke as your guests enter the room and as your wedding party walks down the aisle. If you know exactly what you want to play…that’s great! If not, talk to your band about the mood you want to set and ask them for recommendations.
Dinner music should also be more melodic. It should be enjoyed in the background but should allow your guests to talk and mingle while they appreciate their perfectly planned meal. Once dinner is over, let the good times roll!
When starting out the dancing portion of your evening, make sure you don’t only take your favorite tunes into consideration. Think about your guests, their age range, their cultural background and their musical style; and try to come up with an eclectic list of songs that will include everyone. Also try to include some popular songs from your culture, or mix in popular songs from around the world to really give your event some flair. As the evening goes on take the opportunity to switch things up. Maybe hire a DJ for the last hour or two of your event and turn your elegant wedding into a dance club to end the evening on a super fun high.
Besides music, you will need someone to host on your behalf. It is crucial to any great evening, that you find the perfect Master of Ceremonies (M.C.). The M.C. is there to move the evening along, to announce special moments and to guide the band so that they know when to play something soft and lovely and when it’s time to get down and boogie. A good M.C. will make the difference between a fun evening and an unforgettable one.
There is a lot that can be done with music at an event. By starting off with a soft opening and elevating the tunes throughout the night, you can create a powerful soundtrack that is sure to make people love, laugh, and dance the night away.
